The
Apple iPhone 3G S Smartphone has created much hype on the internet. However, this new mobile phone does not seem to be a revolution, like its predecessor the Apple iPhone 3G. The novelties added to the Apple iPhone 3G S include a faster processor, more memory, a higher pixel camera with video recording, voice control, a compass, extended battery life and the new iPhone 3.0 software. Looks-wise nothing much has changed.
The
faster processor employed in the iPhone 3G S, does promise to speed up things, to live up to the 'S' in its name, which stands for 'speed'. Switching between applications is expected to be less time consuming when compared to the iPhone 3G. Moreover
extended battery life is also a welcome quality.
A
3 Megapixel camera has been integrated into the new Apple iPhone 3G S handset. It is definitely better than the 2MP camera built into the Apple iPhone 3G and also allows video recording. But its not the best. People who have a flair for photography might not really be pleased with this feature, when there are handsets with higher resolution cameras like the Sony Ericsson Satio 12MP camera phone or the
Samsung UltraTOUCH 8MP camera phone or even the
Nokia 6600i 5MP camera phone for that matter.
Voice Control, lets you speak out the name of a contact and the Apple iPhone 3G S identifies the contact and dials the respective number. This feature also lets you make your playlist by uttering the name of the song you wish to listen to. Impressive!
The next new feature is the built in
compass. A useful feature for those who love adventure. You could find directions while your exploring new places, especially when there is a dense green cover above your heads. However, this is not something you could call ground breaking.
The new
iPhone 3.0 software does seem very promising though. It lets you do some really cool things like MMS, get turn-by-turn route navigation instructions and tethering. Tethering is using your mobile phone's 3G ability for accessing internet through laptops and computers via USB or Bluetooth.
All these new features fail to create the magic that the iPhone 3G had created, when it was introduced last year. The leap toward iPhone 3G S does not seem as big as the leap from iPhone to iPhone 3G. And now, other companies are on their heels creating iPhone killers. Apple really needs to watch out.
