Facebook Zero For Mobile Phones

Facebook on Mobile PhoneFacebook Zero is a lighter version of the popular social network that has been designed for use on mobile phones. This new model of the network was announced at the Mobile World Congress held recently at Barcelona, by Chamath Palihapitiya, Vice President of Facebook.

Recently, Facebook was found to be the most accessed social networking website in the world. In-order to reduce congestion on the mobile provider's network due to increased access of the website, the company seems to have resorted to this lower bandwidth version of the site. Moreover, the number of people using their mobile phones for socialising over the web is increasing in scores. Thus the Facebook Zero provides a more mobile-friendly way of socialising.

The data intensive activities like sending and receiving photographs etc are said to have been cut out of Facebook Zero, to reduce bandwidth requirements. Hence it is supposed to be a text-only application, which is said to be offered for free from the mobile network operator. In case the consumers require access to multimedia, then they might have to pay for it.
