The Android Market has been updated with a new app, called the Gesture Search, which will be compatible with Android mobile phones running Android 2.0 and above. This app will be available for UK users at a later date than the US users.
With Gesture Search, one can trace a letter on their touchscreen mobile phones, and a list of search results, starting with that letter, will be displayed on the screen. This kind of gesture search can be used for hunting down contacts, music files or other apps.
There's one more interesting aspect to this Android Market app. If the letter you drew on the screen is ambiguous to the software, like 'A' and 'H', then it displays the results of what it thinks is a closer interpretation first, followed by the second interpretation. For example, if the letter your typed resembles 'H' more than 'A', then the search results will have entries starting with 'H' first, followed by those starting with 'A'. Moreover, you can also type in the second letter to make your search more specific.
While most Android smartphones 2010 might come with Android 2.0/2.1 or higher versions, older mobile phones featuring the Google OS will have to upgrade for using the Android Market Gesture Search app.
