New technologies and features are being introduced into the mobile phones and as a result they open more possibilities before us. Not only have mobile phones influenced lives of the adults but it also has become very popular among children. Today most of the school-going children have their mobile phones and this has raised a lot of health concerns and questions. Although the issue is the most discussed one, there is no solid proof that mobile phones can damage health. Studies and surveys fail to offer proper evidence of risks since the mobile phones have arrived lately. However, it is unwise to ignore the potential health risks that mobile phone radiation can cause, especially on children. Parents should take initiatives to discourage children from using mobile phones as they are more at risk from dangerous mobile phone radiations.

MobileWise, British charity calls for restriction of mobile phones among children. As per the recent survey, 8 out of every 10 children aged between 7 and 11 have their own mobile phones. This means, more children are exposed to the radiation of the mobile phones. Negative findings of the mobile phone study are not given much attention and parents are not warned properly. Vicky Fobel, director of MobileWise said that we can either turn a blind eye to the potential risks or can take effective steps to protect the younger ones from the mobile phone radiations.

Since brain of the children can absorb more radiation than the adults, they could develop health problems in the future. Children of this generation will be exposed to mobile phones longer throughout their lifetime and this could result in serious health illness and issues. Prolonged phone use can even cause brain tumours. Considering, the evidences from several researches and studies, immediate action should be taken by health agencies to warn parents and the public about the ill effects of the mobile phones. Government of Canada, France and some states in the US has made their policy on mobile phones stricter. The French government banned the use of mobile phones in schools, banned advertising of mobile phones to children below 14. The UK is much behind.

Primary schools in France are banned from the use of mobile phone. Mobile phone operators have asked to offer Text only services to children to reduce the radiation effects on them. Mobile Operators Association, John Cooke agreed that use of mobile phone should be restricted among the children. They should be encouraged to send texts instead of making calls, he added.

Radiation Research Trust said that government should notify the public about the health hazards caused by mobile phone radiation. It has also asked children under 16 years of age to reduce the use of mobile phone. When other countries are increasing awareness among the public, British government fails to take proper and effective measures.

San Francisco law for mobile phones requires mobile phone handsets to carry warning labels, consisting of the mount of radiation emitted. French government has also revised the policy to protect children. Government in Russian has restricted the use of mobile phone among children under 18, completely. Similar steps are being adopted by many countries to ensure protection of children.
