Mobile phone towers pose potential threats to mankind, environment and creatures. A recent study suggests that the mobile phone towers have reduced the honeybee population in many parts of the world including Europe and North America. Since mobile phone usage has increased in the world largely, the environment is polluted with electrosmog. This is affecting the behavioural patterns and biology of honeybees significantly. Magnetite contents present is the bodies of these honeybees and that is the reason why they are affected the most with the mobile phone towers and other electronic gadgets.

Honeybees can navigate easily with the help of magnetite. Now, this ingredient in their body when exposed to environment with electrosmog is affecting them adversely. Reduction in Honeybee population could create ecological health and food related issues as they are responsible for pollinating in main food crops. Earlier studies suggested the reasons for the honeybee population as pesticides and diseases. However, the recent studies reveal mobile phone towers as the cause for the drop.

Study was conducted by using mobile phones in honeybee colonies. It didn't take much time for the honeybees to disappear from the colony. However, the colonies that weren't exposed to mobile phone radiations did not show any change in their behaviour. Even the eggs produced by the queen are also reduced in these mobile phone radiation exposed colonies. Additionally, the production of honey was reduced as the worker bees didn't return to the colony. By the end of the research, there was no pollen or honey in the colony.

The reason for the decline in honeybee population is not known but it can be concluded that the mobile phone radiations did have some effect on the drop of honeybee population.
