Here are 2 Japanese mobile phones, the Ply and the Prismoid, that truly deserve appreciation for their looks. They are part of KDDI's iida line of mobile phones. Currently, these handhelds don't seem like they'll hit the UK stores. Yet, its worth giving them attention for the innovative design, especially the Ply's.

The KDDI Ply Mobile Handset has been designed by Hideo Kambara. It looks like a file folder, with tabs on the sides. Five layers, each of a different colour, have been stacked one over the other. This slider phone has a 3" 260k colour LCD screen. Internally this gadget has a 100MB memory, while it also supports microSD cards that can hold up to 8GB of data. Apart from these, there is additional memory for storing emails as well. A 3.19 Megapixel camera is built into this device too. With features like auto-focus, face detection, zoom and flash, photography should be a breeze. The battery life offered by this gizmo is about 230 minutes for talk and 260 hours when idle.

It has a 2.7" internal LCD display and a 0.6" external display. While the internal one is a colour screen which can support 260k colours, the external one is a monochrome screen. The Prismoid too supports microSD cards, however with a higher capacity, of 16GB. A 1.97 Megapixel camera is housed in this device for photographs and videos. This handheld allows sending and receiving emails too. This gadget delivers about 260 minutes of talktime and 370 hours of stand-by.
