Multi-touch screens are now provided in the mobile phones with multiple features. Conventional buttons are now slowly getting replaced by the innovative touch screens. The phones offer different ways to enter text and navigate, with the touch screen capability of activating the system. Many of them feature five Megapixel cameras, stereo speakers, SatNav GPS and fingerprint recognition. Multi-touch technology has eliminated the use of single touch point to make the use of mobile phones easier. Ultra sensitive effect is obtained through various techniques. Finger pressure, infrared light, electromagnetic induction and lacer range finders are among such techniques adopted in the process. Touch screen is made of transparent metallic layers and is capable of generating signals to support the processor. Signals from the touch screen reach the processor as electrical impulses. Touch sensitive screen will respond to the different modes of touches depending on the size, shape and area to which the screen is subjected to.
Like many other innovative features, touch screen is also receiving good consumer response. The technology involved was originally patented about three decades back, but the period of loyalty and trade mark protection has now expired. Manufacturers are no more bound by legal obligations under patents law. Consequently the touch screen technology adopted by phones has become cheaper and affordable to the consumers. It is now liberally applied to all brands and models of smart phones.
The sophisticated touch screen phones are now preferred by consumers for the convenience and flexibility they offer. Even though touch technology was made use of, for many purposes in the past, it was only recently that portable devices like mobile phones received its benefits. From 2007, this technology is being adopted successfully in smart phones with web browser, music player and video player.
All leading manufacturers of mobile phones are now offering multi-touch technology supported products. In a product with multiple features the use of innovative technologies open up new possibilities. At a time when the mobile phone technology is undergoing revolutionary changes, touch screen will provide stimulus to the new ventures.
