Novothink have developed an iPhone cum iPod solar charger which can double as a case for the 2 gadgets. Unlike some of the "on the go" chargers available in the market, this one is light and easily portable. Thus it is an eco-friendly and convenient way of charging Apple iPhones and iPods during emergencies. Plus the device has been certified by Apple themselves.

The Surge can reportedly deliver about 30 minutes of talktime on 3G networks and about 60 minutes on 2G networks after a 2-hour exposure in the sun. There is an LED indicator to show battery level. The Surge can also be charged via USB using a USB cable to connect to a laptop or computer.



The Surge can be used to charge the iPod Touch, the Apple iPhone 3G and the Apple iPhone 3GS. But not the initial Apple iPhone.

The iPhone just needs to be inserted in this case, and the device will automatically start and stop charging when required. Plus there is a thermal sensor which stops the charging if there is over-heating. This is specifically useful for people who travel a lot.

The Novothink Surge Solar Charger will be available in a variety of shades like black, white, metallic blue, metallic silver, metallic brown and metallic green. The price of this device is $80. It is available for pre-order on the Novothink website.
