How to Test the Touchscreen Fidelity of Your Smartphone

Touchscreen mobile phones have been entering the market in abundance these days. Many of them are capacitive touch displays. They can be operated with the finger. However, not all of them offer the same kind of responsiveness. The high-end ones are intuitive. They are sensitive to the slightest touches and hence will be accurate. This means, you'll have lesser typos when you are using the mobile handset.

To check how accurate your touchscreen mobile phone is and how sensitive it is to your touches, Moto Development Labs have come out with a simple yet effective technique. It just involves a simple drawing application and your finger touches. Four smartphones have already been used in this test. They are:-
the Apple iPhone, which has been the undisputed king of intuitive touch-interface, since the time of its launch
the HTC Droid Eris
the Google Nexus One, which is also a product of HTC and
the Motorola Droid

Using the drawing application, a representative from Moto Development Labs draws steady lines to form a grid on each of these touchscreen smartphones. The ones which display the most straight lines, are the ones which are most sensitive to the finger touches and hence most accurate.

Results: The lines drawn on the Apple iPhones were found to be most stable, with lesser waviness. Both the HTC handsets - the Droid Eris and the Google Nexus One, show a little bit of waviness and hence are not as accurate as the iPhone. The Motorola Droid had the most shaky lines, which indicates that it is the least sensitive among the foursome.
