Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus at CES, 2010

Palm had on display, their upgraded versions of the Palm Pre and the Palm Pixi at CES, 2010. Along with the addition of some new features, these new mobile handsets, have also got a "Plus" suffixed to their names. So the new mobile phones are called, Palm Pre Plus and Palm Pixi Plus.

The Palm Pre Plus, carries with it the same touchscreen slider form factor with a QWERTY keyboard. The tactile response of the keyboard is supposed to have been enhanced in the new model. The "home" button that was located just below the screen has been replaced by a touch-sensitive patch, which when touched takes you to the home page. The memory has also been doubled to 16GB. This new device also has WiFi router capability and can allow up to 5 gadgets to connect to the internet at Palm hotspots. The battery life is also claimed to be increased but to a small extent. While the Palm Pre offered 5 hours of talk, the Palm Pre Plus is said to allow 5.5 hours for talk. Plus the standby time has been boosted from 300 hours to 350 hours. The weight of the new mobile handset has increased a little from 135g to 138.5g. The remaining specs remain the same. |
| The Palm Pixi Plus is actually the Palm Pixi with WiFi ability. The older model lacked WiFi. Like the Palm Pre Plus, the Palm Pixi Plus can also be used as a WiFi router at Palm hotspots with the ability to support a maximum of 5 devices. All other features are the same as the old Palm Pixi.
While the Palm Pre did see a UK release after a US release, the Palm Pixi, shied away from the UK market. And at this point of time, nothing has been officially announced regarding UK availability and pricing. However, speculations are that the Palm Pre Plus will make it to UK stores some time later on this year. Both the 2 new smartphones are hitting the US market on 25 January 2010 with Verizon Wireless. |

This smartphone is based on the Palm webOS. It is capable of multi-tasking. You can play music and browse the internet at the same time; attend a call when your logged on to the internet and swap back to your web pages with ease after the call. The Palm Pixi combines text conversations you've had with a person into a single view, making it easy for you to remember and organise things better. Contact details from Facebook, Google and Microsoft Office Outlook are also linked together. So is your calender. Facebook, Google, and Office Outlook calenders are pulled together into a single view, letting you save time and energy.
This mobile handset lets you view real web pages and not the mobile version. The 2.63" screen is touch-capable and offers a resolution of 320 x 400 pixels. You can use natural gestures for scrolling, zooming, shrinking and more.
Apart from calls, you can stay connected with people via the integrated IM, SMS, MMS and emails.
You can click pictures with the 2 Megapixel camera housed in this gadget and also share them with others by uploading them onto social networks or emails too. There is a built-in GPS in this handheld as well. Know your location and surroundings better with this facility. Music is also an integral part of this mobile phone. There is a media player integrated within. You can even download plenty of songs from the Amazon MP3 store. A 3.5mm headphone socket is present in this gadget too. Another noteworthy feature is the presence of 8GB of in-phone memory for storing all your media files.
You can even transfer files to your PC and other gadgets using the MicroUSB port or Bluetooth. This mobile phone supports the Palm services, which lets you back up your data, so you will not lose it even if the phone is lost. The Palm Pixi Smartphone also comes in designer-attires, as part of the Artist Series. The Humming Bird, Skull, Two Fish, Skin and Red Barn designs have been created by the respective artists. Palm Treo Pro Mobile Phone

Palm Treo Pro Smartphone runs on the Windows Mobile 6.1 professional operating system. This mobile phone houses a total of 256MB memory, of which 100MB is available for users and 128MB is reserved for programming. This phone can let you open a good number of applications simultaneously, without causing a memory crunch. This device also offers many connections, interfaces and buttons on its sides, for handling different functionality. On the bottom side of this cell phone, there is a 3.5mm headphone jack, a microphone jack, a hole for the stylus and a microUSB port for charging. On the right hand side, the phone has an IR port and a WiFi activation/de-activation button. The left side of this unit has volume controlling buttons and a user define-able button too, which can be set to operate a convenient feature by the user.
