The Dell Flash smartphone is the latest Android offering from this renowned laptop maker. It is based on Android Froyo, the new Android version after Eclair (2.1). The word "Froyo" is supposed to be short for 'Frozen Yoghurt'.
The Flash is equipped with a 3.5" WVGA touchscreen. The 800MHz Qualcomm processor is employed for handling internal operations.
On the networking front, there's support for WiFi, 3.5G, EDGE and GPRS networks. This handheld promises download speeds of 14.4Mbps and upload speeds of 5.76Mbps. The WAP browser comes built within. There's support for Web 2.0 full html and Flash 10. An array of options to keep in touch with people are available - SMS, MMS, calls, IM, emails, social networks.
Interconnecting with other devices like the PC can be done via USB or Bluetooth. Plus, microSD cards of up to 64GB capacity are supported too.
Entertainment-wise, there's a media player and a 3.5mm headphone jack. There's also a TV output. A 5MP camera with LED flash, 8x digital zoom and image stabilisation is built into this mobile handset. You can capture both videos and stills with it.
Other features offered are A-GPS, handwriting recognition, e-compass, proximity sensor and accelerometer. The battery life quoted is 12 hours for talk and 720 hours on stand-by.
Being an advanced Android mobile phone, the Dell Flash seems well geared up to take on the biggies in the market. This smartphone is expected to start shipping early in 2011, hopefully with some enticing mobile phone offers. It is mentioned to be tied up with AT&T in the US. However, nothing specific has been made known for the UK market yet.
