The much awaited Android update the
Android 2.1 will be coming out soon on the
Sony Ericsson Xperia X10, X10 mini and X10 mini pro. If reports are correct the updated OS will be comin out in the Xperia series this Sunday, 30th October. Sunday evening also happens to be Halloween. So the long wait comes to an end. The update has finally landed on Xperia smartphone handsets.
The users from the Nordic countries of non-carrier branded handsets will get the update first. Others will have to wail a little longer. The Eclair version has already been around now with other top branded mobile phones. Users fo the Xperia X10 until now unable to use 2.0+ apps will be relieved. The Xperia X10 will by this update get 720p quality HD video recording in continuous auto focus. Users will find some feature changes when going from the Android 1.6 to the current version. The update will help with a new application to facilitate extended content back-up. The social contacts in the phone book will sync with Facebook to show when friends come online. Five homescreens will be available. The Xperia X10 mini and X10 mini pro will get improved Bluetooth functionality. More on how to update will be found in the website-www.sonyericsson.com/update.
The update is a pretty large one, so step by step instructions will have to be followed. It would be better to switch on the WiFi for that. It is expected that the upgrade will be done in phases and rolled out in "kits". The Xperia handset will automatically notify the user and prompt them to use the PC Companion. Users may have to take a back-up of their data. In the meanwhile, the much anticipated
Android 2.2 Froyo update has gone over-the-air to users of Motorola Droid X.
