
As per Flurry, the App research firm, more than 81 million apps were downloaded by the UK consumers, during the week following Christmas, which is 60% more than that in the week before the 25th of December. As a result of that the global app downloads crossed the one billion mark for the first time.
On an average, about 750 million apps were downloaded per week during the two weeks starting from 4th December.
The rough break-up of the downloads between 25th and 31st December is as follows:
The United States of America - 509 million, China - 99 million, the United Kingdom - 81 million, Canada - 40 million, Germany - 40 million and France - 40million. There were considerable downloads from other countries as well.
According to Flurry, downloading of app was more in countries with large Christian population. All the above six countries except China are dominated by Christians.
South Korea and Japan, where Christians are few, take the 7th and 10th places. Christmas is not a national holiday in Japan. The majority in South Korea are non religious.
Incidentally South Korea and Japan take 4th and 5th places in the number of smart devices installed in the country.
The app research firm has learnt that about 6.8 million Android and Apple devices were commissioned on the 25th December. Additionally, about 20 million smartphones were energized in the following week.
