NTP, a patent holding company has filed patent-infringement law suits against the biggies in the mobile phone world. The companies being sued are Apple, Google, HTC, Microsoft, Motorola and LG. NTP apparently holds the patent for the email technology used in the mobile phones from these makers.
In 2006, NTP had dragged Research In Motion (RIM) or more commonly known as the Blackberry maker to court over the same patent infringement. The suit was settled with RIM paying NTP $612.5 million. And now, it is the time of the others.
NTP was founded by Donald E. Stout and Thomas Campana. The latter, who is an inventor, is said to hold 50 patents, including wireless email. However, this private company does not really manufacture any product.
"Use of NTP's intellectual property without a license is just plain unfair to NTP and its licensees," company co-founder Donald E. Stout said in a statement. "We took the necessary action to protect our intellectual property."
It now awaits to see how these law-suits against the major players of the mobile phone realm, are settled.
