Apple will be offering
free cases for iPhone 4 users, to overcome the signal reception issue.
Apple had held a press conference yesterday at their head quarters in California to speak about the
iPhone 4 reception issue that had been blown out of proportion on the internet. With the case, users will not have their hand coming in direct contact with the antenna of the device, thus improving the
iPhone 4 signal.
iPhone 4 users can book for a free case via the Apple website starting 22 July. Although the company will be offering a range of cases, not all iPhone 4 users might be getting one. Mr. Jobs also mentioned that users who are still unhappy with the device can return it for a full refund before 30 September.
During the conference, Mr. Jobs said that only about 0.55% of the total iPhone 4 users had a problem with the signal strength when they held the device in their hand. He as well mentioned that the signal reception issue is something that every
mobile phone has, not just the iPhone 4. He took the example of some Nokia phones which ship with a sticker saying "don't touch here". Videos of signal strength dropping of the iPhone 4 as well as the Blackberry Bold 9700 were aired during the conference.
While Apple did not openly own up about any faulty hardware, Mr. Jobs did say, "I'm not saying we didn't make a mistake -- we didn't know that it would have these issues."
