Cost of Windows Phones set to drop
Mr. Nick Hedderman, head of consumer marketing for Windows Phone at Microsoft UK, told Mobile that the prices of devices will change in due course though in the beginning devices are a bit expensive. Analysts in the communications market say that the entry of Microsoft in the smartphone market with its Windows phone operating system is hindered by the high cost of Windows handsets. When compared to Android devices the cost of Windows handsets are high. Mr. Gartner, a research analyst says that the share of Windows Phone 7 in the global smartphone market during Q2 2011 is only 1.6 per cent. Of late ZTE, Acer and Fujitsu became device partners of the company. When asked about the entrance of any more new device partners Mr. Hedderman just said "Watch this space".

Hedderman added that despite the falling price there won't be any compromise with quality. He said that Nokia Lumia 710 is comparatively cheap but at the same time the quality is great. Manufacturers can go above the specifications but never can go below the specifications on any handset.

Hedderman said that Microsoft's connection with Nokia will in no way affect its relations with other device manufacturers. At the function of launching Lumia 800, Nokia's first Windows Phone, Stephen Elop, CEO of Nokia, described the device as 'the first real Windows Phone' and the statement was supported later in the same week by Mr. Joe Belfiore, the Microsoft's head of Windows Phone.

Hedderman said that the device partners of Microsoft would be benefited in some way or other by Nokia's commitment to Microsoft since Nokia brings with it, its untarnished heritage, industrial design, innovative services and spectacular phones to the Windows phone operating system. He appreciated Nokia's initiative for the integration of location-based services like Nokia Drive, Nokia Maps, Mix Radio and Live View. He was sure that Nokia would take Windows Phones to great heights. Partnership is always better than individual launching.

Hedderman added that all Microsoft device partners like HTC, Samsung and LG are doing great and they are also contributing to the operating system of the company. Once again he stressed the point that the company's connection with Nokia will not have any effect on its relation with other partners and the combination of their effort would make their dream - of making windows Phone a third ecosystem - a reality. He said that during the past 12 months the number of apps and the registered developers of Microsoft Windows Phone have doubled. It shows that the graph of Windows Phones in the UK markets is going up.

At present the company has about 50,000 registered developers. They are all actively engaged in developing apps and nearly 35000 apps are now available in the market while there were only 20,000 developers and 5,500 apps in January this year. Of course we are growing in terms of quantity, but what is more important to the company is maintenance of quality of the apps and how they could be used on the phone.

Hedderman said that the operating system of Microsoft wants a more flexible use of apps just like the one in Nokia's Live Tiles on its Lumia smartphones. Here useful information are updated, apps and information are organized into separate heads like social networking, work, music, gaming etc. It is something different from other systems. In other systems you have to download apps and then for other information you have to go one place to another. He added that the Microsoft's apps are not allowed to sit in silos, so the developers of the company can make use of the apps whereas in many other companies apps are made to sit in silos.

Microsoft with its latest Windows Phone update is trying to capture a major share of the b2b market. He said that the productivity would be increased by the Mango version. The businesses could extend the IT infrastructure and the cloud based services such as Office 365 could be made use of. Microsoft has faith in its heritage and it believes that Windows phone will allow its users to have access to offices even when they are on the road.
