Google has updated Google Maps for Android application. Installing the upgraded Google Maps 4.6 for Android, the user will be able to see a new icon for Places. The icon appears in the application list on their Android smartphones.

The updated application incorporates a new search bar. The user can directly search the details of a particular place. The user can find complete information and ratings on other establishments in the surrounding area along with a sponsored link for the location.

The design of the Place pages on Android Maps share the same new design for displaying reviews as used by Place pages on a desktop computer. In Latitude there is an new option to choose. Select the "Real Time Updating" from a friend's profile page on Latitudes. You will temporarily see fast location updates to help you meet up with your friend. But remember the friend's Android smartphone too must have an Android 2.2+ version with Maps 4.6 loaded.

This feature is an experimental one. Once enabled friends using the same service will be able to see where you are in "real time". The other way applies too, for you to meet up a friend. In Latitude previously location data was updated at regular intervals, but now this can be done in real time. Temporary usage is preferable as battery life of the smartphone can be extended when using this application.
