Although many of the mobile phone manufacturers have released, or are planning to release, Android powered mobile handsets, none of these smartphones stirred interest and were more eagerly awaited than the Google's very own Nexus One. There are plenty of reasons for that. First, it is Google's first. Secondly, it is said to be a tough rival to the Apple iPhone. Then, it is reportedly home to a new interface with the Android v2.1 and sports some 'never seen before' features.

Slashgear has come upon information from Paul O'Brein, MoDaCo founder, that, this much anticipated mobile phone will be released on January 5, 2010. Apart from a US launch, a European release is on the cards too. However, details about pricing have not yet been revealed, though there is information that it will be competitively priced. Moreover, there's mention that the smartphone will not be available for pre-order. If this is true, then it will be first come, first serve, and hopefully a pleasant New Year gift.
