Microsoft's new mobile phone operating system, the Windows Phone 7 is soon going to feature on new smartphones from Dell, LG, Asus, Samsung and HTC. These mobile phones are expected to be launched during the final quarter of this year. However, there has been no official confirmation of any sort.

Dell Lightning is the Windows Phone 7 phone from Dell. It sports a vertical slider form factor (the Palm Pre style). A sophisticated looking device, the Lightning is home to a 4.1-inch OLED screen, a 1GHz processor, ample storage space with 1GB of internal memory and microSD card slot for 8GB cards and 512MB of RAM. There's a 5MP camera, GPS support, an accelerometer and a compass. An FM radio and Flash compatibility are available. There are assumptions that 4G technology (the successor to 3G/3.5G) will also be supported. |
Samsung Cetus i917 seems to have similar features like the Lightning; with a few differences here and there, like form factor. The Cetus i917 is a 4" AMOLED full touchscreen device (no physical keyboard). It is 3G (no confirmation about 4G though), WiFi (801.22n) and Bluetooth 2.1 capable. On-board the Cetus i917 are a 5MP camera, plus a front facing VGA camera for video calls, a microSD card slot and FM radio. |

The Asus Windows Phone 7 phone is sort of a mystery (even the name) at this point of time. A leaked picture could only confirm the following details - a large touchscreen of maybe 3.5-4 inches; a brushed metal finish on the facade; may be a front facing VGA camera; and the 3 default buttons "Windows", "Back" and "Search" below the screen. |
HTC has had leaked details of an array of handsets sporting the Windows Phone 7 platform. The HTC Mondrian, the HTC Mozart and the HTC Gold are said to be part of them. The Mozart and Mondrian were spotted in the XML sheets of HTC's MMS specs. The Mondrian is supposed to have a 4.3" WVGA touchscreen. It might support both GSM and CDMA and run the Qualcomm 1.3GHz Snapdragon processor. A HD capable 5MP camera along with a digital compass is also said to be present. Both Mozart and Mondrian are said to offer the Windows Phone 7 browser - Microsoft Internet Explorer Mobile 7. They should also have the full-fledged set of networking features. Nothing much known about the HTC Gold, except that it will release in November, this year. |

The LG C900 is LG's contribution to the Windows Phone 7 fair. This is said to be a QWERTY keyboard slider. Other details are not out as of now. However, they should pretty much be of the same calibre as the others. In the US, this mobile phone is said to be headed to AT&T. A UK release is yet to be announced though. |
Microsoft has teamed up with some of the top phone makers to release their new platform. The pre-release version which was given for a hands-on trial to some in the media had brought in both positive and negative criticism. Hence nothing can be predicted about how these gadgets will fare when they step into the market.
