It is no secret today that one of the worst headaches of the prison service in the United Kingdom are smuggled mobile handsets. Nonetheless a Nottingham jail may have come up with a viable solution.

Posing a major challenge to the prison service of the United Kingdom, thousands of gadgets have been confiscated by the authority over the recent years, besides thousands being still used daily by the prisoners.

According to the reports that have been published in tabloid newspapers mobile phones were been used by criminals with a view to carrying out their own businesses from inside. These reports ask for what reason else would the criminals needed the mobile phones.

Telephones had been set up on the landings of prisons following an inquiry was ordered into the riot of the Strangeways prison in the year 1990. Prior to this prisoners used to depend on letters, obviously a sluggish method of communication for all.

This procedure was criticised by the Lord Justice Woolf who had ordered the inquiry. Following this the meagre communication between the prison inmates and their families was deemed in adequate and installation of phones on the prison landings was recommended.
