A new
iPhone app is being offered by the University of Central Lancashire for new students. This service will be free of cost. It is supposed to give details like maps, local transport and entertainment. Students will also be able to get information about facilities available on the campus and email accounts of students.
Michael Ahern, director of learning, believes that students will have the information they need right in their pockets and they need not stop and ask others for directions, with this first ever app for a UK university.
For those students who do not have an iPhone, the facility is also available for access from
laptops and other
mobile phones which can connect to the internet.
The university has spent about £1m to get laptops and online services for those students who cannot afford to have their own computers.
