Linux software groups join hands with Intel and Samsung
To create a new mobile operating system, Intel and Samsung Electronics, teams up with two Linux software groups. Linux Foundation and LiMo Foundation said that the latest Tizen platform supports multiple gadgets like tablets, smart phones, smart TVs and in-vehicle 'infotainment' systems. This platform is open-source, standards-based software.

First quarter of next year will see the initial launch of it. The first set of devices making use of Tizen will be introduced in the market during mid-2012. Tizen is designed to merge a number of marginalised Linux based platforms. The technical steering committee that develops Tizen will be led by Samsung.

The efforts to create an autonomous substitution for Android will unlikely to appeal developers and manufacturers. However, large operators might switch to rival platforms of Android to prevent the increasing influence of Google over the mobile market.

Currently most of the Samsung devices run on Android platform, but with the recent acquisition of Motorola Mobility by Google, company seeks a new system.
