
Plans for setting up, a mobile phone network across the London Tube in time for the 2012 Olympic games have been reportedly dropped.
This development followed a meeting between the four mobile network operators of the United Kingdom that had concluded on Thursday that they proposal of building the network in time for the London Olympics beginning next July would hardly be possible.
According to the people close to the plans they have not been abandoned because of any issue regarding the involvement of the popular ChineseTelecommunications equipment maker, Huawei Technologies that had proposed providing the mobile network with the necessary kit.
The four operators of mobile network in the United Kingdom, O2, Vodafone, Everything Everywhere and Three UK said in a statement that they have been working closely with London underground and the infrastructure partners for sometime with a view to rolling out mobile services across London underground, and were disappointed that it would hardly be possible to roll out such services in time for the Olympic games starting next year.
The statement added that they would carry on to explore positively all other avenues available to them in a bid to deploy a similar service at a latter date.
