However good a device may be, once it loses its battery power it is useless at least temporarily. The same thing applies to the handset as well. Rarely does a phone hold its full charge throughout the day, irrespective of the reputation of the manufacturer.

There have been efforts to design the phone with lower power components, which will enhance battery life. But that is yet to succeed.

One example of this is the reduced power 'companion core' of Tegra 3.

Yet another solution is by increasing the battery capacity. A modern lithium-ion rechargeable battery has been introduced by a group of engineers. The apacity can be increased ten times. The charging duration is also less.

The normal carbon anode is enclosed with layers of silicon. Silicon has the capacity to transfer more of its charge to lithium ions, thus raising the energy level. If the anode is provided entirely with nano scale holes, ion mobility will increase much faster. The charging will also be over in quick time.

It is not known when this new type of battery will come into existence in the market. . The engineers are still trying. They have done their experiment only on Anode so far. Once they turn their attention on Cathode, further improvement is likely.
