The biggest chip developer of the world as regards to sales has on Wednesday announced a ground breaking 3D structure for its processors of the next generation kind. This according to the estimates of the US firm is potential of giving the company a lead by almost three years over the rivals.
Meanwhile many see the revolutionary chip design unveiled by Intel as a bid placed to ward off a threat from the popular chip designer based in the United Kingdom, Arm Holdings that challenges the dominance of the former in microprocessors.
Although, Intel enjoys the PC processor market's 80.8 per cent, compared to rival AMD's 18.9 per cent, it has largely failed in producing power chips efficient enough for using in tablet computers and mobile phones. This segment incidentally is dominated by AMD.
Particularly, the popular handheld devices from Apple, Apple iPad tablet and Apple iPhone versions have engaged chips based on the designs of Arm Holdings, rather than Intel's.
Nevertheless, the new design unveiled by Intel very much promises to reduce the consumption of power by half compared to its current generation. This means that a breakthrough for Intel to mobile phones could be very much round the corner.
