
A research carried out recently by the University of Maryland revealed in their findings that growing dependence had by the younger generation on technology, besides how it has emerged central to their routine.
The research found some as saying that they felt so bereft in the absence of their mobile phone (this could be a Blackberry or an iPhone) that it evoked feelings identical to the Phantom Limb syndrome that hits the amputees.
While mobile phones were undoubtedly one of the most essential devices in the present times, other technology advances such as computers, television and MP3 players were also deemed essential for getting people through their routine.
Physical and mental symptoms of distress were reported by many young people, besides employing the rhetoric of dependency, addiction and depression in reporting their feelings of trying to go a full day, unplugged.
According to the students that talked to the survey going without their mobile phone was a depressing experience, while for the professor that led the project, Professor Susan Moeller the sudents' dependence on the gadget was scary.
