Orange, the prominent mobile service provider operating in the United Kingdom looks set to emerge as the first operator in the country to enable customers to pay for commodities with a simple swipe of their mobile handset. Orange reportedly signing a strategic contract with Barclays to releaseĀ this.
The parent company of the mobile group, Everthing Everywhere stated that the first commercial no-contract mobile payement service of the nation would be rolled out by the summer. The chief development officier of Everything Everywhere, Gerry Mcquade deems it as the beinging of a revolution in the way people pay for goods on the high street.
Goods and services can be bought by the shoppers at over 40,000 retail stores by a simple wave of their mobile phone before a contactless reader. These no-contact readers are already in place in outlets such as Eat and Pret A Manger.
The near field communication that is a technology expected to soar according to mobile firms will be used by the wave and pay system. The NFC is already in place in the Nexus S mobile phone of Google besides Apple's pondering over it for its upcoming iPhone 5.
