A research conducted by Indian scientists at the Punjab University, Chandigarh, have revealed that mobile phones are affecting the honey-bee population and hence the production of honey.
Three bee-hives were observed during the research. The scientists placed 2 mobile phones near one of the bee-hives; 2 fake mobile phones were placed near the second bee-hive; and the third bee-hive was left undisturbed. 2 calls were made to the mobile phones near the first hive, every day for 15 minutes. After 3 months, it was observed that the honey bee-population in the said bee-hive reduced drastically. The honey produced was affected as well. The other two bee-hives functioned normally.
These insects are said to have magnetite in their bodies which help them in their navigation. However, the radiations from the mobile phones, is said to interfere with their activities causing the reduction in their population and thus in the production of honey.
