Mobile phones could pose risk to bacteria, suggests new findings
Latest researches carried out by group of scientists suggest that mobile phones are sources for bacteria like E.coli and MRSA. Among the researched mobile phones, 92% were infected by bugs and some had 1,000 kinds of microbe. The bacteria E.coli was present in one in six phones and it was connected with several cases of food poisoning including a death in Europe.

Most of the bacteria present in the handsets were proven harmless. For the research, samples from mobile phone and hands of 390 people residing in 12 cities were taken. Experts from London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine conducted the tests and found that contamination levels were highest in Glasgow and lowest in Brighton.

The highly contagious bacteria, E. coli originated in faeces could be transferred by touching food, mobile phones and door handles used by others. It survives on surfaces and hands for hours, particularly in warm temperatures.

Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, another type was found in almost a quarter of surveyed mobile phones. The bacteria, naturally found in mouth, nose and skin can be transformed into MRSA, a hospital super bug.

Research suggests that people with such bacteria in their hands can contaminate their mobile phone with them and therefore it is very essential to wash hands after going to toilet and visiting hospitals.
