There are some plans for Motorola to adopt Google's latest mobile operating system.
Like everyone else, Motorola is excited to see the source code for Android Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS). Motorola is wondering when the ICS will be ready. ICS has many steps and processes suited to the carrier and the customers. The source code does not automatically update to user's device.
Motorola initially dealt with the lengthy process of getting the ICS and the earlier operating systems, and then informed how the smartphone would get the update.
Motorola wants to upgrade as many phones as possible. Upgrade is based on many factors, which include the capacity of the device and hardware, the support of the chipset software, the operation system support and the ability to support the value add software of Motorola.
If that be the case, Motorola Droid RAZR, Motorola RAZR, Motorola Droid Bionic and Motorola Xoom all will get ICS.
Motorola Xoom 2 and Motorola Atrix, both released in 2011 will not get it at least for the time. Motorola will be able to provide more information on timing and also regarding any addition to the device list very shortly.
However the users will be concerned about a statement that the requirement of each carrier will be different for each carrier for the second and third phases. Another statement is that for entering the carrier lab cycle of a couple of months, a preparation cycle of two months may be necessary.
It indirectly indicates that Motorola devices will not be able to get ICS at least for the next two or three months.
