
Wayne Rooney, the popular English and Manchester United footballer has said that police has showen him documents suggesting that his mobile phone might have been hacked by a newspaper.
Rooney said in a message typed on Twitter by him that detectives of Scotland Yard had come to see him earlier and shown him certain documents that hinted at a newspaper having hacked into his mobile phone.
Nevertheless, the celebrity footballer has not identified the newspaper in question.
Meanwhile, it has been reported that dozens of possible victims of mobile phone hacking have been contacted by the London Police as part of a probe into the News of the World newspaper of News Corp.
More than twenty politicians, actors and athletes have reportedly sued the newspaper over claims that the messages on their mobile phones were accessed illegally by reporters for gaining stories.
Meanwhile, the Meteropolitan police, it is also known as Scotland Yard refrained from commenting, as did Hayley Barlow, a News of the World spokeswoman.
