Anssi Vanjoki, who just resumed office as Nokia's head of Mobile Solutions, is obsessed to get Nokia back to its numero uno position as maker of high-end mobile devices. In his blog on Nokia Conversations, Vanjoki has let us in on future plans of the company.

This year, Nokia will be releasing the Nokia N8 smartphone which will be the first to feature the Symbian^3 OS, Nokia's latest Symbian version. The company also has plans of launching a MeeGo device this year. Vanjoki hushed rumours about a Nokia Android smartphone by stating that Nokia mobile devices will not be adopting Google's platform.
According to Vanjoki, the Nokia N8 is going to be their only N-Series device to feature the Symbian^3 OS. He mentioned about the strong possibility of the availability of the next Symbian version, the Symbian^4. While the Symbian platform will be directed at smartphones, the MeeGo will focus on the computing space. Therefore we might see the next Nokia Booklet this year.
However, Vanjoki insists that "the computers of the future will not be tied to a desk or even a lap - they will fit in your pocket." Nokia is working with Intel to develop the MeeGo software to include Bluetooth, GPS, NFC (Near Field Communication) and more and to provide developers with a rich platform to create new possibilities.
So do Apple with their iPhone OS (and even their latest iOS4), Google with their Android and even Microsoft with their Windows OS, have reason to watch out? Only time will tell.
