TeliaSonera, the Swedish network operator, were the first to announce the good news. O2, seem to be following close at their heels, and we're soon to hear good news from them too. Yes, O2 will soon be going 4G. The UK's largest mobile network have announced that they have tested their 4G network at their Slough HQ, along with Chinese manufacturer, Huawei. The results are said to be positive.
With the 4G network technology, or LTE (Long Term Evolution), O2 is said to have achieved almost 150Mbps of download speeds on their network, during the tests. This 4th generation cellular wireless technology will definitely bring about a boost in speed for online activities, like downloading and uploading of files. Gaming and watching HD videos over the internet will also happen without time lags.
TeliaSonera have already started giving out 4G modems to consumers in Oslo and Stockholm, to use their 4G networks. However, neither O2 nor Huawei have mentioned any specific date when 4G services will be available for the UK residents. Telefonica, O2's parent-concern, is reportedly having plans of establishing 4G networks in Argentina, Brazil and Spain, apart from the UK. We can therefore expect that the year 2010, will see plenty of 4G-enabled mobile phones and other devices stepping into the market.
