O2 has been facing problems in its network due to the use of heavy data applications by smartphone users. This resulted in a network jam that blocked calls and other data transfers. O2 has reportedly apologized to consumers who faced problems.
The mobile broadband provider had already been facing issues with the network earlier. They have even mentioned that they had seen an 18% rise in the use of the network since the beginning of this year. This has doubled every 4 months since. But the increased use of smartphones, especially the iPhone, led to the networks facing issues.
O2 is said to have spent £30 million to make its network capable of handling large data transfers and in December, the conditions were even supposed to have bettered. However, the largest UK mobile operator, still faced problems recently. In November, this year, O2's exclusivity contract for the iPhone with Apple came to an end. Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone have also bagged the sales of the Apple's coveted mobile phones. And according to WashingtonPost, Vodafone, the 2nd largest network operator has mentioned that its network can handle large data transfers with ease.
