The open source to avail webOS through HP
HP is making available its operating system 'webOS' for the open source community. The company will actively develop the OS and support it.

The development power of the open source community in combination with the innovative webOS platform will considerably enhance web services and applications for the next generation of devices. This was informed by the company sources to the press.

HP will also soon contribute the ENYO application framework for the operating system.

The availability of webOS is expected to enhance the development of the software which will be provided through an open source license.

The standard web technologies will be used by the developers to put up applications which can operate on multi-devices and multi-platform.

Meg Whitman of HP stated that webOS is probably the only one designed from scratch and built up to be mobile, cloud-connected and also scalable. HP has brought out the creativity of the open source for the creation of new apps and devices.

HP will do its best to avoid fragmentation. The developers can suggest their ideas.

BBC was informed that enabling the functioning of the peripheral devices like printers was extremely important for the future of the Operating System.

HP wanted the webOS for their tablets and smartphones initially.
