Orange clubs with Wikimedia, the owner of the Wikipedia website to deliver access on its website to the popular online encyclopedia, which is a website itself. The deal allows for the roll out of co-branded content, partnered by the Wikimedia foundation to Orange's customers in the UK, France, Spain and Poland.
With such a deal being struck amongst the internet and mobile giants, one can expect the realisation of Wikimedia channels on both Orange website and mobile phones. Apart from this, the official website of Orange will also bear Wikipedia content as well as links to segments of the official website of Orange.
Another field where the two companies will synergistically apply effort will be in the developing of web as well as mobile widgets for downright access to Wikipedia. Following this roll out, another phase of the agreement marked by the launching of fresh services co-branded between the duo, over the mobile and internet, apart from the new TV platform of Orange.
The second phase of the agreement between the two companies will also see the extension of the deal to other countries as well. However, the details about the second pahase of the agreement is very much obscure, at present.
This news on the new deal follows the recently unveiled plans of Orange to launch five Android mobile phones in the year 2009. Apart from the predominant HTC Magic, the pack is also expected to include HTC Dream and HTC Hero mobile phones.
