Powerful NVIDIA Smartphone Chips Launching Soon - Qualcomm Has Competition
NVIDIA Tegra 2

NVIDIA, the computer graphics chip maker, had also started making smartphone chips sometime back.

Though the start was a little rough (remember the scrapped Microsoft Kin smartphones which featured the NVIDIA Tegra chips?), the company seems all geared up now, to move ahead with vigor. Earlier this year, they announced the much powerful Tegra 2 chips for smartphones. These new processors are supposed to be four times more faster than the initial Tegra chips. Not just that, they can also play 1080p videos, in contrast to the first Tegras, which could play only 720p content. Power-efficiency-wise too, the NVIDIA Tegra 2 is said to have beat the predecessor.

LG Optimus Smartphone

LG, the Korean mobile phone maker, might be the first to release smartphones sporting the Tegra 2 processors. A report from Wall Street Journal indicates that the LG Optimus smartphones line will be featuring dual core NVIDIA processors. The best mobile phones are going to be based on Google's Android platform. They are expected to be available in the market later on this year.

Qualcomm, which had almost monopolised the processor market for high-end smartphones, now has some competition to look forward to. However, they seem quite determined to hold their ground. New powerful Snapdragon dual-core processors from Qualcomm are on the cards as well. These 1.5GHz processors will also support 1080p videos. Top-notch smartphones and tablets, featuring these processors are to set foot into the markets very soon.
