Motorola has reported a six-fold increase in profit to $162m, as it issued an optimistic outlook for its handset division.
The mobile division of Motorola saw a
profit fall by 6% to £1.08bn dollars during the second quarter ended 30 June. About 2.7 million smartphones were sold by the company in the quarter, up from 2.3 million during the previous quarter, and 5.6 million basic handsets. Sanjay Jha , Motorola co-chief CEO said
demand for the supply of 'Droid X is greatly increasing and is one of their smartphones powered by Google's Android operating system.
The company has been counting on Android smartphones after reporting successive losses, to help turn around its fortunes 'As we continue to execute on our business strategy, we are in a strong position to continue improving our share in the
rapidly growing smartphone market and improving our operating performance,' Jha said. He added that he expected to see growth in Motorola's mobile sales in the July to September quarter.
