'Research In Motion' (RIM) to introduce parental control in 'BlackBerry' phones
(RIM) intends to introduce parental control in their BlackBerry mobile phones. This will enable the parents to have some control over their children watching the internet applications.

The feature will be incorporated in the next version of 'BlackBerry 7 OS'. The parents will then have control over settings on the phone, the browser, text messaging, social networking site access etc.

'BlackBerry App World 3.1' enables parents to place a rating filter in 'BlackBerry App World'. This will prevent the purchase or display of contents of specified rating as per the CTIA Wireless Association's "Guidelines for App Content Classification and Ratings".

The basic intention is to prevent children from watching vulgar video bits. The suggestion was initiated by Ofcom.

Ofcom said that the phone operators are unable to provide filters to the handsets.

An RIM spokesman remarked that RIM is a member of the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) and it is its duty to protect the character and behavior of the growing children and to take care that they are not ruined.

Access to 'IWF URL' is made available in international market with BlackBerry phone.

RIM is committed to support its operating partners around the world in meeting the obligations in this connection.

RIM provides content filtering support free of charge to the operating partners throughout the world including those in the UK, for the BlackBerry smartphones.
