RIM renames 'BBX' as 'BlackBerry 10', following court order
'BlackBerry 10' is the next generation mobile platform of 'Research In Motion' (RIM).

This is because of the trademark dispute of its BBX brand in the US market.

RIM had announced at DevCon Asia conference in Singapore that the new platform will provide the best of BlackBerry QNX platforms to the partners and users alike.

The BlackBerry 10 will signify the importance of the new platform and exhibit the enormous potential of the item. It will also align properly with the device branding of RIM.

'Basis International', a software company from New Mexico, objected to the name 'BBX' and succeeded in obtaining a court order to force RIM to withdraw the name temporarily with immediate effect. According to RIM, the business and activities of the Mexican company is entirely different from that of RIM and that there was no need for that company to initiate a legal complaint.

But the United States District Court did not agree with RIM. According to the court, the products of the two companies are sold to the same class and type of consumers and that both the companies are in the same channels of trade. It means, the action of RIM is unwarranted.

The court order was a setback for RIM. However, the company did not make any comment.
