Hackers have always been targeting the Google owned platform Android and now the number of attacks on the Android devices are growing significantly. The latest findings by Juniper Networks researchers suggest the increased rise of Android malware. Since July 2011, the attacks have surged to 472%. Criminals, who target the Android devices, hide viruses in the applications, tactfully. People who download the applications get affected. Malicious codes are being targeted at Android gadgets.
Among the revealed malicious applications half of them are designed to access messages, personal information, location and identity from the devices. Other type of virus is aimed at getting money from the Smart phone users. Here, text messages are sent to premium rate numbers without the knowledge of the mobile phone numbers. Among the malware 55% are spyware. SMS Trojans make up 44% of the overall attacks. In this kind of attacks SMS messages are sent to premium rate numbers possessed by the attacker. In this case, the money is not recuperated after the message is sent.
Due to the lack of a proper review process of third-party applications available in the online market, the hackers are encouraged to attack Android users. Google does not adopt a strong policy and malware authors can easily distribute their malicious code and software. Malware attackers are finding out new ways to attack the Android devices and the numbers of maware threats are increasing with day.
