Swift mobile transfer to be allowed by fresh Ofcom rules
Ofcom, the telecommunications watchdog of the United Kingdom has implemented fresh rules requiring the operators of mobile networks to issue PACs (Porting Authorisation Codes) to leaving customers within a maximum of a couple of hours. This will help the customers to subscribe to a fresh network the same day.

It is understood that the regulator came to making this decision following their discovering that many network operators were using the postal service for issuing PACs, which could take many days to reach them.

The fresh rules of Ofcom now state that network operators are required to issue PACs with immediate effect, over the customers phone or by text message within two hours at the maximum.

The decision made by Ofcom retrieves the power to the hands of the consumers, putting them in a more advantageous position for switching networks and saving money on their mobile phones. This was revealed by a uSwitch.com's technology expert, Ernest Doku.

This move has been widely perceived as long over due and at the end of the day, places the United Kingdom on a level playing field compared to the customers of the rest of Europe that were deterred from broadband switching.
