O2 remains the exclusive dealer of the iPhones in the UK since the first iPhone launch in 2007. However, according to a report in the Telegraph, certain sources have said that Apple's contract with O2 does not forbid other companies from importing SIM-free iPhones into the UK from abroad. Therefore it seems like there will not be any legal conflict.

T-Mobile is the exclusive distributer of the iPhone in Germany. The UK branch of the company has been seeing rainy days, which is attributed to the lack of attractive & technology-rich mobile phones they get to distribute. Previously, there was news that the German parent company, Deutsche Telekom, had had plans of selling off the branch in the UK. Perhaps the SIM-free iPhones venture will save the company. Though, this might actually put the network operator in the bad books of Apple. T-Mobile has however declined to comment on the subject.
