
The world wide sales of mobile phones that had peaked at 428 million during the quarter two of 2011 and the uptake of smartphones are predicted to rise with the entry to the market being continued by mid-tier products. This information has been given by Gartner through fresh figures.
The top selling mobile phone manufacturers' position has been maintained by Nokia by shipping world wide, 107 million units, despite the market share plummeting by 5.5 per cent. Rival mobile phone maker, Samsung claimed the second place by shipping 67.8 million units for its sturdiest ever quarter one.
As a matter of fact, Nokia was overtaken by Samsung in terms of European sales. Nevertheless, Nokia held on to the first position this quarter with its being able to waste inventory while Samsung was successful in building some.
The third position was secured by another South Korean mobile phone company LG by selling almost 24 million devices. The fourth place was claimed by Apple by selling 16.8 million iPhones and Research In Motion ended up in the top five with its 13 million BlackBerry sales.
Gartner's vice president for research, Carolina Milanesi said to V3 UK website that the performance of Apple after the company's more than doubling up its year on year iPhone sales across the world has been remarkable.
