Apple iPhone Compared with Nokia N95

The digital technology has taken over the world and revolutionised the whole concept of communication. With the advancement of technology, high-tech mobile phones are being launched in the market. The mobile phone industry is in its full swing. The manufacturers are trying their best to surpass their rivals. This article is an attempt to study the features of two mobile phones of two different competitors.

Design

The Apple iPhone comes with a glossy black screen, offset by a solid chrome surround. The back side of the device is metal. The only drawback with this sort of a design and finish is that it is quite slippery and you have to be careful while handling it.

Features


Apple iPhone combines a phone, music player, camera and web browser and is truly a stunning device. It is a touchscreen smartphone, running Apple’s OS X operating system and comes with a revolutionary interface. The embedded soft-keypad enables you to type pretty fast. There is no need of a stylus.

Nokia N95 is a slide phone which comes with built-in GPS Satellite navigation. You can access menu functions with 5 way navigation when the phone is closed. It comes with dedicated media keys for media functions. The buttons are small and you might find the user interface a little sluggish, but what the phone does, really matters. 3G video calling feature is available in this phone, which is lacking in the iPhone. Connectivity


The connectivity part of the Apple iPhone is undertaken by GPRS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. For web browsing it is equipped with Safari web browser. You can just flip the phone on to its side and the display will automatically flip to landscape mode enabling you to view web pages with ease. It also comes with integrated Google maps. You can zoom in and out of the map with ease. You can see the weather forecast, check stock investment and view your photos on its superb screen. The downside is that it lacks GPS receiver and also stereo Bluetooth.

The Nokia N95 comes with built-in GPS navigation, which enables you to track your position either on foot or in car. You can be at the right place at the right time, with the integrated GPS and Nokia maps. It comes with ultra-fast HSDPA that enables you to enjoy fast downloads and web browsing. It provides connectivity via Bluetooth, USB, infrared, TV-out, WLAN and Wi-Fi.

Messaging


For emailing, you just need to tap the email button on the iPhone, which brings up a list of yahoo mail, Gmail, .mac mail and AOL with “other” tab at the bottom. SMS sent by you and received from a particular contact is stored separately in different folders. The iPhone easily syncs with Microsoft Outlook. It can even download POP3 settings for your email accounts. It does not support MMS, which is a real letdown. Even though you have a built-in camera, you can’t send your pictures to your friends.

Entertainment


Apple’s Cover Flow mode enables you to browse through all your music, sorted by the album covers. The sound from the iPhone is crystal clear and its video playback is remarkable. Apple iPhone is an iPod too. It has 8GB flash memory, which is enough to store 2000 songs. Nokia N95 comes with a music player that supports all music formats and is equipped with a stereo FM radio.

Camera


Apple iPhone mobile phone comes with a 2 mega pixel camera, but lacks auto focus and has no flash. Nokia N95 comes with a 5 mega pixel camera with auto focus, Carl Zeiss & Tessar optics. Its video camera is outstanding. The only drawback is that it lacks optical zoom.

So, which one of the mobile phone is better? A tricky question indeed, mainly because ‘Better’ is a relative term- what might be good for one, might not be good for the other. The needs of each person vary. However, before buying a mobile phone you should take into account certain factors like size, weight and features of the phone.
