With a variety of cheerful colours, the Nokia 6700 Slide Mobile Handset, is gearing up for a release during the first quarter of 2010. While Nokia already had a 6700 handheld, the older one was a classic candybar. The new 6700, is a slider as is quite obvious in its name. Not just the form factor, the 2 handhelds are a little different in their offerings too.

The 6700 Slide is a smartphone and is based on Symbian S60 3rd edition. The older Classic 6700 is not a smartphone. The new mobile phone is a quad-band GSM handset. Being GPRS and EDGE capable, it lets you access the web pages as well. Moreover, it's 3.5G ability makes surfing the internet very fast. Download (HSDPA) speeds of 10.2Mbps and upload (HSUPA) speeds of 2Mbps are promised. This device also supports tri-band WCDMA. It is therefore compatible with networking standards in different markets. This device however, does not offer GPS, which the older 6700 Classic model does offer.

The screen is quite small. It measures just 2.2" across and has a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels. It can display 16M colours. The rest of the front side is occupied by the send, end call, shortcut keys and navigation pad. The lower panel has a regular alpha-numeric keypad. A 5MP camera with Carl Zeiss lens is integrated in this phone. You can capture both stills and videos (15fps) with this gadget.

Data sharing with other devices like your PC can be done via the USB port housed in this device or even Bluetooth. MicroSD cards are supported too, which serve the purposes of data sharing as well as memory expansion.

A multimedia player and an FM radio come built into this handheld. A 2.5mm headphone jack is present also. A 3.5mm one would have been more preferable, though. The mobile phone offers a battery life of just 3 hours for talk and 10 days on stand-by.

The Nokia 6700 Slide Smartphone will appeal more to the young crowd with its features and attractive colours of  - red, blue, aluminium, purple, pink and lime. This gadget has been priced at €160.
