Nokia N87 Mobile Phone - An iPhone Killer?

Being an iPhone killer is not a simple thing. The UK mobile phones needs to first of all have a multi-touch screen with a remarkable user interface. This should go hand in hand with a classy, slick looking form factor. All this, topped with other high-end smartphone features, should make an iPhone killer. Nokia has a mobile phone in its pipeline, which seems like it can take on the iPhone. Say hello to the new Nokia N87 Smartphone. The conceptual images and details had leaked earlier this year.

The biggest selling point of this mobile phone is going to be its software platform - Symbian^3. This new Symbian version includes multi-touch capability. Therefore you should be able to use two fingers to pinch and pan the screen for zooming in and out.

This phone is supposed to have a 3.7" AMOLED capacitive scratch-proof touchscreen. Below this display is supposed to be a touch-key panel for changing modes between call, camera and music. Like most Nokia mobile handsets, the N87 too is expected to be an entertainment friendly phone. On both left and right sides of the device are located the HD surround sound speakers. Plus there is a 3.5mm headphone socket on the bottom side as well. A Nokia N87 port, which might be used for HDMI output later, is mentioned to be present on the top side of the phone.

Nokia N87 is reportedly home to a 12 Megapixel camera with Xenon flash and infrared night-vision LEDs. This camera will be able to capture HD 720p videos. Lens protection is also said to be present. So here's one more aspect that this mobile phone is definitely a scorer when compared to the Apple iPhone (even the 3GS which has just a 3MP camera). There's also a front VGA camera for video calls.

Another special feature of this smartphone is supposed to be its ambiance detection and lighting feature. The Nokia mobile phone intelligently senses the ambiance and produces loud rings and vibrations in crowded places than otherwise.

Internal specifications reportedly include an ARM Cortex A8 600MHz processor. The RAM is supposed to have a 256MB capacity with probably an option for virtual memory expansion. Either a 16GB or a 32GB of internal NAND flash memory is said to be present in this mobile handset. Due to the presence of such large capacity flash storage, there might not be a microSD card slot. However, there will be a microUSB port for both charging and data sharing with the PC.

The Nokia N87 Symbian^3 Mobile Phone is expected to start shipping during Q3 this year. There's no word though on which markets it will release in and pricing, yet.
