Even before the
Palm Pre Mobile Phone has set foot in the UK market, there are reports about the launching of a new application store that can be used with the phone. Like Vodafone's applications store,
Vodafone 360, this is Palm's efforts to stay afloat in the tough competition set by Google's Android Marketplace and Apple's App Store.
The Palm's applications store, called
App Catalog has about 80 applications now, which are currently available for free. However, the application developers will reportedly be receiving 70% of the revenue from these applications.
Palm had made their software developers kit (SDK), Mojo, available to developers in July this year.
The applications will most probably be available on the company site on 24 September, 2009. The UK market will be receiving the Palm Pre
mobile handset exclusively on O2 network, and the release date is expected to be 30 October, 2009. The
mobile phone which went on sale in the US, earlier this year, has already got about 800,000 units sold.
