Sony Ericsson has announced its next generation Walkman phone, Sony Ericsson W8 mobile phone. This Walkman phone is expected to be launched in June 2011. This handset looks excellent with its dashing body and design. Sony Ericsson W8 Walkman phone works with a Qualcomm MSM7227 600 MHz ARM 11 processor and Android v2.1 (Eclair) operating system.

The networking features of this mobile phone supports quad band GSM as well as HSDPA. The data link features available in this device are GPRS, EDGE and 3G. The local short distance connectivity features are Bluetooth and microUSB. WLAN option is also available. Internet browsing in this mobile phone is supported by HTML and navigation is provided by A-GPS reciever.

Sony Ericsson W8 Walkman phone comes with a 3.15MP camera at a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels. VGA Video recording at 30 frames per second and geo-tagging are the supportive features included in this mobile phone. Formats supported by both audio and video are MP4, MP3, eAAC+, WMA, WAV, WMV, H.263 and H.264. Some of the other features included are FM radio with RDS, Walkman player, MP3 ringtones, loudspeaker, 3.5mm audio jack and TrackID music recognition.

Sony Ericsson W8 Walkman phone comes with a 3 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display of 16 million colours and 320 x 480 pixels. Scratch-resistant surface, Timescape UI, Proximity and Accelerometer sensors are offered by this model. The texting features included are SMS, MMS, Email, Push Email, Instant Messaging and Predictive text input. The phonebook and call records hold unlimited fields and entries with an option for photocall.

Some of the other features are SNS integration, Digital compass, You Tube, Google Search, Maps, Gmail, Google Talk, Voice memo, Calender and Java MIDP emulator. In addition to a 128 MB internal memory and 168 MB RAM this handset supports microSD memory of up to 16GB. The colours available are Red, Orange and Azure.

This mobile phone weighs 104 grams and measures 99 x 54 x 15mm. The battery of this mobile phone is standard Li-Po 1200 mAh. The talktime offered is up to 4 hours and standby up to 446 hours.
